Position Overview and Qualifications:

The Associate Director of Development is a key member of Cornerstone’s Advancement Team and fundraising operation reporting to the Director of Development. Overall, the Associate Director will be in charge of designing and executing a series of strategically planned activities with the goal of building and nurturing a broad base of donor support from individuals, corporations and foundations. They will manage a portfolio of 75+ prospects at various stages of engagement with Cornerstone, soliciting them for support through Annual Giving, including tax credits. This position will also manage a part-time Grants Manager, to be hired in the 2021-2022 school year. NOTE: All Cornerstone employees are required to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination.

Specific duties include:

Annual Giving (Annual Fund)

  • Manage the calendar and implementation of Cornerstone’s Annual Giving program including direct appeals.
  • Collaborate with the Advancement Associate on segments and data for appeals.
  • Personally solicit annual gifts from 75+ prospects.
  • Track and plan interactions with donors and prospects, achieving 5-6 personal visits per month.
  • Research and cultivate new corporate and foundation prospects, working with the Advancement staff to secure funding for designated school programs or capital improvement projects.
  • Work closely with the Director of Development to identify individual donors who have higher capacity, and develop strategies to move them to higher levels of philanthropy.

Annual Giving (EITC OSTC)

  • Cultivate relationships and maintain communication with current donors supporting Cornerstone through Pennsylvania’s tax credit programs (Educational Improvement Tax Credit – EITC, Opportunity Scholarship Tax Credit – OSTC).
  • Identify and cultivate relationships with new individual and corporate tax credit partners to help Cornerstone reach its maximum level of support ($1MM).
  • Develop and lead EITC and OSTC stewardship efforts.
  • Manage reports to the State for EITC and OSTC renewal listings.

Grant & Foundation Program Oversight

  • Manage a part-time Grants Manager.
  • Oversee all aspects of corporate and foundation contributions including correspondence, letters of inquiry, grant proposals, accounting, acknowledgment, and reporting to appropriate boards and agencies.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership, foster initiative, and provide clear feedback as a member of the Advancement team, helping to establish the direction for the school’s philanthropic efforts.
  • Support planning and logistics of Advancement events.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 3 years of experience in Advancement, with success in securing major gifts from individuals, corporations, and foundations.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills as well as excellent presentation skills.
  • Possess critical thinking skills, independent judgment, and is a self-starter.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, time management, and evident ability to handle multiple projects.
  • Able to prioritize and execute tasks with minimal direction.
  • Demonstrated success and passion with all aspects of philanthropy with a broad knowledge of fundraising principles and successful Advancement programs.
  • Record of success closing leadership-level gifts and gifts through a variety of giving vehicles (e.g., Annual Giving, EITC/OSTC, Planned Giving, Endowment, Events).
  • Openness to and develops ideas to innovate and elevate Cornerstone’s Advancement program.
  • Success building authentic donor relationships with high quality customer service skills.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, time management, and evident ability to handle multiple projects.
  • Experienced in working with a diverse population and demonstrates a high degree of cultural competency.
  • A passion for education and creating educational opportunities for children in underserved communities.
  • An appreciation and passion for the mission of Cornerstone Christian Academy with a deep-rooted commitment to Christian values, a love for children, and a cooperative spirit.
  • Experience with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) databases – eTapestry preferred.
  • Excellent skills in Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
